Consider this a prelude to my Wednesday guest post at First Draft tomorrow.
There are few people on earth I admire more than the small woman in this video. A warrior, growing frailer each year though she may be, Adrienne Rich’s poetry has been, and likely will continue to be, a powerful guiding force for generations (and those yet to come) of women, men, activists, risk takers. Rich read this poem of hers, Transparencies, at a ceremony last year where she and others were honored for being risk takers.
Risk, safety, fear, injury, and courage- of, and by, words and bodies. This is what’s on my mind. Seeya tomorrow.

This is a few days (okay a week ) old but it’s too good not to post. As to the lateness, I can only blame the tardiness and/or complete dearth of local Gorilla Jesus Witnesses. Had any neat-but-modestly-dressed gorillas showed up at my door to tell me the good news, I’m certain I would have linked to Fafblog earlier.
“Gorilla Jesus was created in an accident of mad Jesus science,” says me, “when a test ape launched to earth in an experimental God rocket was transformed by exposure to cosmic Godmotron particles.”
“When the rocket crashed Gorilla Jesus survived with mysterious messiah powers,” says Giblets, “like consubstantiality and hypostatic unity and x-ray vision.”
“He was raised by humble farmer parents deep in the ape heartland,” says me, “but moved to the big city to spread his gospel a peace an love an feces-flinging to all people.”
“And so they tried an convicted Gorilla Jesus of heresy an witchcraft an they sentenced him to death,” says me. “And that’s when the robots attacked.”
As is also evident, this is actually quite timely, since it’s an example of a funny gorilla story that’s actually.. you know, funny … instead of sick and twisted.

Michelle does The View. Fist jabs all ’round. I don’t see a flag pin in the bunch. Why does The View hate America?

No way am I going to embed a John Cornyn video here, so you’ll have to visit Pink Lady to see just how ludicrous his new ad is.
The condensed version (with apologies to Gary Larson): I’m a cowboy! Howdy! Howdy! Howdy!
This is what happens when a chickenhawk Republican who’s never been in harm’s way has to scramble to defend his seat against a Democrat with 23 years in the military, including a tour in Afghanistan, in addition to a decade of public service in state government.
Tell Box Turtle Cornyn that we don’t need anymore fake cowboys in Washington, folks.
Support Rick Noriega for U. S. Senate. Help elect a man who doesn’t have to pretend to be something he’s not.
UPDATED: Cornyn claims it was a just a joke…you know, funny.. ha ha.

Big weekend underway. New York bigwigs watertiger, res ipsa loquitor, (and Brooklyn Girl, I think) will be flying into Austin. They’ll be mixing things up with the local, and some wider flung, Texaschatonians. The inimitable Four Legs Good will be serving as Cruise Director of this whole movable shindig/hootenany, which includes BBQ tonight, a yard party at Chez Doghiney tomorrow, and other goings-on. It is my understanding that the ladies from NY will be on the prowl for hunky cowboys. Good luck with that, ya’ll.
Homegirl racymind started the weekend off early, and got into Austin last night. We hung out, drank and dined, then headed over to the Cedar Door to the very happening Texas Progressive Blogger Caucus party, which was impressively well-attended by bloggers, delegates to the state convention, pols, reporters, etc.
Photos and more anecdotes later, I’m sure.
